2023 is coming to an end, and it’s time to bid adieu to the year that was and welcome 2024 with a bang. Bring out the dancing shoes, ready your party attire and plan your makeup looks as the countdown to New Year’s Eve begins. If you’re undecided on the kind of makeup you’d like wear and the vibe to go for, we’ve curated a list of makeup looks that will do justice to the occasion – whether you’re going out-out or having a chill house party with friends, we’ve got something for every kind of plan.
1. The disco look
If your New Year’s Eve plan is to dance the night away, why not go for a look that mirrors your mood? Think iridescent makeup, resembling a disco ball which is both eye-catching but still easy to create. Here’s how to achieve the look – apply concealer to your eyelids to create an even base for your makeup, then apply a liquid glitter eyeshadow and gently dab with your fingers for even distribution. Use volumising mascara to draw extra attention to your eyes.
For your face, keep the base minimal and apply a generous amount of highlighter to the high points of your face for added glow.

2. Monochrome magic
Monochromatic makeup is currently having its moment in the sun. Recreate it with a shade that pops for a fun night out look. Breaking it down, choose the colour you like and use the same shade for your face, eyes and lips. Begin with your base makeup as usual, and then fill in your eyelids with eyeshadow, this should preferably be a matte formula. Follow this up with a similar shade of blush on the apples of your cheeks and finally, lipstick. You can go over your lips with a shiny gloss to play it up.

3. Classic smokey eyes
The classic smokey eye look will never go out of style and is perfect to elevate your glam quotient on New Year’s Eve. You can either stick with the classic black eyeshadow or experiment with a different colour for the smokey eye makeup. Begin by applying the darker eyeshadow and packing it onto your eyelids. For the transition shade, use a nude or a lighter eyeshadow to achieve a seamless look. Use a fluffy brush to blend and get an even transition. Apply winged eyeliner for extra drama and mascara to make your eyes pop. To enhance the look further, highlight the inner corner of your eyes with a shimmer shade or highlighter.

4. Barbiecore makeup
Barbiecore makeup ruled the beauty industry this year, so why not add it to the NYE makeup ideas? For this look, we recommend a half-cut crease in any shade of pink you fancy. Start with neutral eyeshadow on your crease, then follow it up with a dark shade of pink from the outer corner of your eyes to the middle. Now, take concealer on a fine-tip flat brush and apply it from the inner corner of your eyes to the middle, blending it with the darker shade to create a seamless transition. On the concealer side, you can apply a lighter shade of pink or a glitter eyeshadow to enhance your look. Finish the look with some mascara, eyeliner is optional.

5. Dramatic eyes
Dramatic eyeliners are not new but they always make a statement. And the best part? You can add these for a full glam look or even pull the attention only to the eyes by keeping the rest of your makeup lowkey. But to celebrate the year end, we’re going to recommend going big with dramatic lashes and graphic eyeliner. Take your favourite eyeliner and start by extending a wing from the outer corner of your eye, bringing it to the centre of your top lash, and filling it in. For the next wing, start from your bottom lash line and extend a wing in a similar fashion. To add a pop of colour, you can use bright coloured eyeliner for the bottom wing.
