I have severely dry skin, so you’ll understand my excitement when I learned I’d be trying Blessed Moon’s 3-step night routine. It was going to be a relatively simple one, with a cleanser, moisturiser and eye cream, but given Korean skincare’s reputation (it’s globally known for flooding the skin with intense hydration), I was happy and hopeful. I tried this Korean night-time routine for one whole month (a rather short duration given that skincare takes at least 2-3 months to deliver visible results), but I was already pleasantly surprised at how my skin was responding in just a matter of a few weeks. Keep reading to learn my detailed breakdown of this newly launched Korean brand and my final verdict on the routine.
Starting point
First, a little background on my skin — I’ve always had super dry skin, which also happens to be acne-prone (yes, acne-prone skin doesn’t necessarily have to be oily). It also tends to get dehydrated and feel stretchy if I accidentally skip moisturiser, even for a day. I suspect my barrier health is also at play here since a weakened skin barrier makes it harder for your skin to retain moisture and stay supple.
My goal with my perpetually parched skin has always been to provide it with adequate moisture. I’ve tried everything from hyaluronic acid to home remedies like slathering honey on dry areas to heal them. With much trial and error (and a lot of help from my dermatologist), I am finally discovering how to keep my skin hydrated and blemish-free, but it’s still a rocky road on some days.
First Impressions
Now, let’s move on to the exciting bit — first impressions of the product. I tried the Blessed Moon’s Vita Kit, which comes with three products, the Clean Kit (foaming face wash), the Water Kit (a gel-based moisturiser), and the Eye Kit (a rich cream).
1. The packaging:
Apart from being drenched in baby pick and oh-so-Insta-worthy, the super-cute packaging ticks off quite a few boxes when it comes to convenience. The products come in capsule packaging for hygienic application — using one capsule per use means you’re never dipping and re-dipping your fingers into the product, and the product that reaches your skin is always uncontaminated and clean. Every container houses about 31 capsules (one for every night of the month).
The capsule packaging also makes this product extremely travel-friendly. A 5-day trip with your girls? Pack five tiny capsules of each product, and you’re all set.
If you’re worried about plastic waste, be rest assured because these capsules come in a cardboard container (without compromising on the aesthetics) and produce much less plastic waste as compared to regular-sized plastic containers and tubes.
2. The formulation:
As the name suggests, the Vita Kit comes enriched with all essential vitamins to boost skin health, mainly vitamins C, B and E. While vitamin C enhances radiance and targets hyperpigmentation, vitamins B and E repair your skin barrier and keep your skin well-moisturised.
3. The routine; textures, scents, the works:
#CleanKit: The first product I started off with was, of course, the clean kit. The product itself is a thick, silken cream that transforms into a dense foam once applied to wet skin. Once rinsed off, it does leave your skin feeling clean and hydrated, minus the slipperiness that most hydrating face washes tend to leave on. It’s got a light, floral scent, which I didn’t quite mind. The capsule has enough product for 2 to 3 uses, considering you wash your face and neck as I did.
#WaterKit: Next, I followed up with the water kit, which is essentially a gel-based moisturiser which spreads like a watery serum-cream when applied onto damp skin. Just like its cleansing counterpart, this one also comes with a light, refreshing fragrance and enough product for 2-3 uses if you’re covering your face and neck. I like to slather a whole capsule in one use, extending the application from my face and neck onto my décolletage and ears and rubbing the product in for maximum efficacy. But you can go easy if your skin isn’t as parched as mine. It gets absorbed almost instantaneously, leaving behind a slight cooling effect.
#EyeKit: The last step was the eye cream, which is a thicker cream. It comes in the same-sized capsule as the other two products and is meant to be a ‘full-face eye cream’. You are encouraged to apply it all across your face and neck as the last step in your nighttime skin routine. I was sceptical at first since it was a much thicker formulation (the goal is to be glazed, not greasy) and quickly realised that it’s meant to be massaged into your skin for it to be absorbed properly. Use your fingers to work the product in. You can even try a facial massage to aid lymphatic drainage if you struggle with puffy skin often. A 5-minute massage ensured all the product was absorbed, and my skin felt nourished, glazed and not greasy.
The verdict
While my skin felt instantly hydrated and nourished after the first use, consistent usage over a few weeks left me pleasantly surprised. Most hydrators work on my dry skin instantly but struggle to keep it dewy through the day. However, the Blessed Moon Vita Kit actually provided both instant hydration and long-term nourishment, leaving my skin softer, smoother and plumper in a few weeks. I also feel like my skin’s resilience has increased over time— there are fewer blemishes, and it hardly ever feels parched or stretchy like it used to before.
My honest recommendation? Go for this routine if you’re looking for general high-quality upkeep or if, like me, you’re chasing intense hydration and all the goodness that comes with it!
