Through thick, thin and everything in between – eyebrows have had quite the journey over the years with each trend representing an era gone by. We’ve seen them weather extremes—thin, squiggly, and overly plucked, to bushy, unruly, and untouched. After years of trying to draw in and perfect our brows, we have finally settled on a trend that sits somewhere in the middle of it all – ‘fluffy’ brows. Donned and popularised by celebrities like Lily Collins and Cara Delavigne, we can safely say that this trend is here to stay.
Fluffy eyebrows involve natural, fuller-looking brows that aren’t overly bushy or unkempt. Remember boy brows? Well, it’s along the same lines but a tad more structured and shapely. They’re fluffy in the front, get fuller at the arch, and then taper neatly into the tail. While the brow gods and goddesses have blessed a lucky few with naturally full eyebrows, most of us need a little helping hand. All you really need is the right technique and a few eyebrow products, and you’re good to go! Step 1:
Cover your brows with a brow gel or a brow freeze from start to finish. This will give them some hold and shape that will prep them for the next step.
Step 2:
Comb your eyebrows upwards with a brow comb or a spoolie. Here’s where you can brush them into your desired shape.
Step 3:
Fill in your eyebrows. Using a matte eyebrow pencil or pen, start drawing strokes to create an appearance of a thicker brow. Use a hue that matches your final brow colour. Adding this technique just below the arch will also give the appearance of thicker eyebrows, which translate to a fuller appearance. You can also use the pencil or pen to outline the desired shape if required.
Step 4:
Now, go back with a brow comb and blend the product in. Once blended, you can evaluate if you need to further define or thicken your brows.
Step 5:
Apply a brow powder that matches your brows to fill in any gaps. This will also give them more depth.
Step 6:
Finish off the fluffy look by combing your brows once again. This ensures that none of the products stand out of place and are blended so that your eyebrows appear natural.
Step 7:
Tie in the entire look by highlighting softly under the brow with a concealer or a skin colour eye shadow. This will accentuate your brows even further. a
